what is minimalism exactly?
For me, minimalism is about letting go of the unnecessary to make space for the most important. Most people talk about it in terms of stuff. That was where I started, too. And I'm letting go of the unnecessary to make space for the most important in my schedule, my family life, my creative work, my nonprofit work, and my business.
Sometimes the unnecessary is still really good stuff. That's where the choices get harder--and more rewarding.
Minimalism doesn't have to be white walls and teensy houses. You can have a purple mailbox and a crock-pot and still do the minimalist thing. (I do.)
